Sometimes life feels completely awesome, and that’s my life right now. I’m recently engaged to an amazing man, it’s summer break after a fun year, and everything I need I have. None of that even comes close to the relationship I have with God. My life is blessed, and I don’t think I’ve done anything to deserve it. That’s just how awesome God is.
There have been seasons in my life when things have felt impossible: those times when I thought finding a teaching job wouldn’t happen, the many lonely days of being single with no prospects, and the moments when I’ve let myself begin to worry about my financial future. I didn’t feel like I was soaring when I was worrying and trying to make my life myself.
I’m able to soar when I trust in God.
Isaiah 40: 31 says, “but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” That’s what I’ve learned to do. In order to fly, I have to trust God and his perfect plan. I have to wait for the moment in which he moves.
Right now I’m waiting on some other prayers for people in my life, and rather than worry and fret, I know I just need to wait for God. He’s got this.
By the way, those earrings I am wearing in the above pictures were custom-made by my good friend, Clare. She sells in-person locally and on Etsy. If you’re interested in her leatherwork or some of her other styles, check out her Etsy shop or her Instagram.
They say home is where the heart is, but they never say how many homes one can have. My heart is pulled so many different places because the people I care about are spread out. I call different locations “home” but the place always seems to lack a little something.
Maybe the problem is that none of these places are truly home because nothing on Earth can measure up to the home God has prepared for me in heaven. I just pray that each of the people in my earthly homes can join me in our eternal home.
Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
(By the way, I painted this canvas! Also I think it’s time for some more recent pictures to grace my walls.)
At the beginning of this year, I started a project that has proven to be extremely good for my relationship with God. A friend encouraged me to create a jar of blessings, but since I didn’t have a jar handy, I created a box of blessings.
Each time something good happens to me, I write it on a slip of paper and place it in the box. I plan to read the blessings at the end of the year to reflect on how God has worked in my life this year. Sometimes, the blessings are little, such as a pretty flower, but they can also be answered prayers, such as a successful day. When I read them, I may not remember why this blessing was so good, but I can marvel at the number of recorded blessings that He gave me.
In the meantime, this box is bringing me closer to God. I find myself thanking God more throughout the day. I don’t always remember to write them down at the end of the day, but I do remember to thank God during the day. This is helping me maintain that constant conversation with Him and improving my mood.
I encourage each of you to try recording your blessings somehow. You can use a box, a jar, a journal, or any other method that suits you. Most importantly, remember to thank God each time you receive a blessing, no matter the size. Let’s see how we can become more thankful this year.
I have neglected this blog once again due to a large amount of reading that I have been doing, but I’m here now.
First, I am not sure I ever put a finished picture of my t-shirt rug that I made. It was a Pinterest design. You can read my original post here. Here is a picture of my finished product:
Secondly, I would like to share another completed Pinterest activity with you: Cookie Dough Cupcakes!
Some friends and I wanted dinner on Saturday night (since Food Service is junk then), so we Pinterested some ideas. We made pizza quesadillas and cookie dough cupcakes. Here are some pictures and I will say now that they were quite scrumptious.
There ended up being 62 cupcakes!!! Way too many for the three of us so we walked around campus and gave several away to strangers and friends alike. It was fun!
So I have decided to make a t-shirt rug. I’ve seen it on Pinterest for some time now, but I finally decided to do it. I was organizing my roomie’s drawers, and she had some old t-shirts. I proceeded to cut them up into yarn, borrowed my friend’s size 19 needles, and began knitting. Here’s a few photos:
